Why I Joined Carevive

Typically, I believe most of us choose our path in life based on our dreams, our goals, and the challenges we face. However, I also believe that often times our path chooses us. With my 15 years working in oncology medical education and my decision to join Carevive Systems, I am confident that my path has chosen me. Years ago, I never really thought much about cancer; you get it and then you die. But when folks close to you such as family members and dear friends are diagnosed, it surely opens up another level of sensitivity and awareness within you. My experience working in oncology medical education has provided me with such; by reading clinical slide decks and monographs to attending live symposia and listening to case studies told by clinicians and the personal stories by cancer survivors. Because of this, my family trusted me to communicate with their doctors. Today, we are truly grateful that my family members and friends are cancer-free and are doing very well. But not always is there a positive outcome, nine years after her initial diagnosis, our mother succumbed to renal cell carcinoma. Knowing what I know today, and learning about Carevive’s Care Planning System, I wish these options were available back then. Maybe it would have not changed Mom’s fate, but I do know that if she had a care plan, it would have helped her and us, the caregivers, better handle her illness.
